Kavli foundation has supported 100%'s projects in both Ghana and Kenya for several years, and has greatly contributed to boosting the sails in Pebi. Kavli Trust writes here about the projects in Pebi, where we work together to create opportunities in an otherwise marginalised community with no income. With their help, we have created a school, a feeding programme, a vegetable garden and a bakery, all of which aim to make children and their families independent of aid.
Meet the teachers at the school in Pebi, Ghana, started by 100% for the Children with support from the Kavli Trust.
- Who says education is for the rich? The question is posed by Bismark, the local project coordinator for the school project in Pebi.
- I could do anything else but work with very marginalised people who cannot pay school fees or provide adequately for their children. I am very proud to be a part of this community. I dream of seeing these children become great and responsible leaders," says Bismark.
The teachers at the school have received training and positions supported by the Kavli Trust for three years through 100% for the Children. Comfort, another teacher at the school, says she is working to ensure that the children become role models in the future. "Maybe we will have some ministers or presidents from this school.
Teacher Godwin, who teaches not only in the classroom but in the kitchen garden, says it's hard for the children to go to school.
- So we are here to help them. I can see that the school has a bright future. In five years it will be sustainable," he says.
Obed and Patrick are the two newest teachers at Pebi. They came to the school to help marginalised children achieve their goals in life, they both say.
- The Kavli Trust has helped start something big. Because the dreams are only getting bigger among teachers in Pebi, Ghana. "With the support of the Kavli Trust, the teaching staff now dare to dream for their students. Together we are making a difference for teachers, students and parents," says Camilla of 100% for the Children.
