In an engagement project with Crossing Borders, Promentum and 7 schools in Fredensborg Municipality, 100% for the Children has helped to Build friendships and talk about the SDGs with students and teachers from Kenya, Ghana and Denmark.
About the project
In collaboration with Crossing Borders, Promentum and 7 primary schools in Fredensborg Municipality, we have trained SDG ambassadors who will run small sustainable development projects in the local community in Fredensborg. In addition, each of the 7 Danish schools have formed friendship schools with one in Africa.
The project started at the end of 2021 and ran until the end of 2o23. In two years, 21 students from grade 8, 21 teachers and 14 school leaders became SDG Ambassadors. They have also helped ensure that their schools and the local community in Fredensborg are committed to the sustainable development agenda. In total, around 800 students from the 7 schools have been involved in the project through the activities that the SDG Ambassadors have initiated at the schools.
When teachers, students and school leaders were ready to step out as SDG Ambassadors, their school has built a friendship with a school in Africa. Here, knowledge sharing, experience exchange and joint commitment have helped to drive sustainable development forward.
In Kenya and Ghana, our two partners Positive Life Kenya and REEP have helped identify two schools that have participated in the project. In addition to being a friendship school to a Danish school, they have also helped produce material about the SDGs in the local context in Kenya and Ghana. This material is used in Denmark to continue the friendship and commitment to the SDGs for many years to come. Even after the 21 students who have become SDG ambassadors have left the school.
A friendship between Humlebæk School and Kiotani School
Humlebæk School in Fredensborg Municipality has the pleasure of being twinned with Kiotani School in Kenya. In 2023, 72 5th grade students were busy learning more about their new twinning school in Kenya and the students' everyday life. To do so, they visited Kenya through the eyes of our children's reporter Carla. You can follow the journey below.
The students were so intrigued by what they discovered that they decided to dedicate their project week to creating projects large and small to improve learning at Humlebæk and Kiotani School. The cool students and their parents managed to raise close to DKK 4,000 for Kiotani School. Super cool students.
